We sat in the circle pretending not to care, while secretly hoping to hear our name. Every pass brought anticipation, relief, disappointment, or excitement, often within the same breath.

Somewhere along the way, we learned that being chosen could feel just as uncomfortable as being overlooked. That quiet tension still follows many of us today.

Some of us are still waiting to be chosen. Others are still afraid of being next.
